Payara Vampire Fish

The payara, Hydrolycus scomberoides, (also known as "Dog Tooth Characin" per the Shedd Aquarium, Chicago, IL) is a little known species of gamefish that lives in the Orinoco River in Venezuela. The payara's most noticeable features are the two long fangs protruding from its lower jaw. These fangs can be 4 to 6 inches long, and have earned it the nickname "vampire fish".

Payaras eat most fish smaller than them, but the bulk of their diet is comprised of piranhas, which they impale with their sharp teeth. Payaras share the same habitat with peacock bass. They are also known as cachorras in Venezuela. Payara is restricted to the Amazon River and its tributaries above the mouth of the Rio Tapajós. They can reach at least 650 mm SL.

Alligator Gar Fish

The Alligator Gar, Gator Gar, or Atractosteus spatula, is a primitive ray-finned fish. Unlike other Gars, the mature Alligator Gar possesses a dual row of large teeth in the upper jaw. These remarkably Alligator-like teeth, along with its snout, give it its name. The dorsal surface of the Alligator Gar is a brown or olive-color, while the ventral surface tends to be a lighter color. Their scales are diamond-shaped and interlocking (ganoid) and are sometimes used by Native Americans for jewelry.

The Alligator Gar is capable of breathing air and can survive up to two hours above water.

Tigerfish

There are several different species of Tigerfish including Hydrocynus vittatus, Hydrocynus forskalii and the massive Goliath Tigerfish (Hydrocynus goliath). These fish have sharp and VERY large teeth that look more like then came from a shark than a freshwater fish. Tigerfish are often found in places like the Congo river and in Zimbabwe.

Tigerfish are said to hunt in packs like the Piranha and rip their prey apart piece by piece with their razor sharp teeth. There have even been unverified reports of attacks on humans!

A starving dog till death is called “a work of art”!

An "artist" from Costa Rica - Guillermo Habacuc Vargas - as an installation piece took a dog from the street and caused it to suffer and starve to death in the name of Art.

Please sign the petition to boycott the artist. His name is Guillermo Habacuc Vargas. He took a starving dog off the street and tied it up in a gallery as his exhibit. He felt that the dog would have eventually died on the streets so it was okay to let it continue starving.
